Frequently asked

Plus, trial and billing

Is Card Value available yet?

Not yet. Card Value is finished and is being prepared for the App Store. This page and the home page will link to it as soon as it is live.

What does Card Value cost?

Card Value Plus includes everything and comes as a weekly or a yearly subscription: weekly with a 3 day free trial, then 2,99 € per week, or yearly for 39,99 €, which is about 0,77 € per week and 74% less than paying weekly. Prices are for the German App Store; other countries see their local price in the app. There is no free tier and no ads.

How do I cancel the subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On your iPhone open Settings › your name › Subscriptions › Card Value Plus › Cancel. If you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, nothing is charged. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles refunds for all App Store purchases: go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in and choose the purchase. I cannot issue refunds myself, but if something in the app went wrong, tell me and I will help.

I bought Plus but the app says I am not subscribed.

Open Settings in the app and tap Restore purchases, making sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID you used for the purchase. If it still does not work, email me with the date of purchase.

Can I use Plus on a second iPhone?

Yes. Sign in with the same Apple ID and tap Restore purchases. Your collection itself is stored locally on each device and is not synced.

Scanning and prices

How accurate are the prices?

Prices are market data from Cardmarket (EUR) and TCGplayer (USD), delivered by the open TCGdex database and refreshed daily. The headline number is the Cardmarket trend price; 30 day average, 7 day average and lowest price are shown underneath. They describe the market for a card in the selected variant, not the condition or grading of your copy. Treat them as an estimate, not an appraisal or an offer. More in the guide Cardmarket price trend explained.

The card was not recognised or the wrong card was shown.

Make sure the card name and the collector number (bottom corner, e.g. 045/165) are sharp and not covered by glare. Daylight and a matte background help; a clean sleeve is fine. If the app is unsure it shows alternatives, tap the right one. You can also search for the card and add it by hand. Send me a photo if a card keeps failing; it helps improve the recognition.

Which cards are supported?

Pokémon Trading Card Game cards in German and English, from the first sets to the newest expansions, including promos and gallery subsets. Card Value is not affiliated with The Pokémon Company or Nintendo.

What is the difference between Normal, Reverse Holo and Holo?

The same card is often printed in several finishes, and each has its own market price. Choose the variant that matches your copy before adding it. The guide reverse holo vs holo shows how to tell them apart.

How does the binder scan work?

Switch the scanner to Binder, hold a 9 pocket page flat and in good light so the whole page fills the 3×3 grid, and take the photo. Each pocket is recognised on its own; pockets the app could not read are marked so you can fix them individually. Then tap “Add all”.

Does the app work offline?

Recognition happens on your iPhone and works offline. Prices and card images need internet and are cached for 24 hours, so your collection keeps its last known values without a connection. Refresh the prices when you are online again.

Data and privacy

Do I need an account? Is my data synced?

No account, no login, no sync. Your collection lives on your iPhone only. Back it up with your regular iPhone backup. If you delete the app, the collection is gone.

What does the app send?

For prices and images, only the card ID goes to the open TCGdex database. Only if a card is hard to read, the photo is sent once to the recognition server in the EU and is not stored after the answer. Details are in the privacy policy.

How do I delete my data?

Settings › Delete all data removes your collection, wishlist, history, price cache and settings.

Camera or photo access does not work.

Open iOS Settings › Card Value and enable Camera (and Photos, if you want to pick pictures from your library).
